5 Reasons Why You Need A Managed Services Provider

One of the topics that comes up time and time again with our clients, is does their business necessitate the adoption of a Cloud solution and an overall technology infrastructure?

Questions like: “Why should we consider a managed services provider? and What’s the benefit?” are becoming the norm.

A report by IDC indicates that “Worldwide spending on public cloud services and infrastructure is forecast to reach $266 billion in 2021. The cloud computing market is expected to achieve a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21.0% and public cloud services spending will reach $128 billion in 2017, an increase of 25.4% over 2016.”

This growth is systematically changing long-term business decisions and businesses are shifting their spend accordingly.  A shift like this presents challenges and creates more questions, such as the biggest one of all: “Do we really need this??”

The answer is YES- you do! Here are five reasons why:

1. OPERATING COST REDUCTION
Let’s face it - the skill set required to maintain and support your infrastructure is ridiculous; the overall systems and software are constantly evolving. The expense of training your staff for skills they might never use and keeping those skill sets “up to date” can be a nightmare to stay on top of.  Having a trusted managed services partner brings all the expertise required to successfully support your unique needs and ensure that your process never becomes obsolete.

2. ACCESS TO EXPERT SUPPORT
Imagine all the costs associated with hiring several technology experts to your team. Experts that know all the ins-and outs of your web platform, how it was built, how the content gets entered, what little things can cause system errors, how the platform “talks” to the network, etc.  Now imagine this expert (or team of experts) must work around the clock at your office; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, holidays, weekends, all time zones.   Now imagine that specialist sits there in an office all day just waiting for something to happen. Are you also imagining a salary that you can’t afford?  With managed services you gain access to staff with all those specialist skills- it’s like having your own personal team of infrastructure ninjas.

3. DECREASED DOWNTIME
Hey - do you happen to have an extra $100,000 laying around? According to a study by ITIC that is the average business cost of a single hour (60 minutes) of downtime.  Is that a hit that your business can easily absorb or justify? Could that money already be allocated to sales, marketing initiatives, business development or some other department within your organization?  With a predetermined incident management plan, downtime is handled immediately, and systems are restored rapidly, saving you money and your company’s reputation.

4. OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY
Want to see your CFO do a happy dance? Shift random, undetermined costs to a consistent monthly operational expenditure. End the “it’s broken –  fix it at any cost” cycle. Calling your application or platform provider to delve in deep and figure out the root cause of a problem whenever one arises can take time and money (lots of money, especially when being charged by the hour.)  Engaging in a managed services model with a flat monthly fee with no unexpected upgrade charges or changes in charges, will control and minimize long-term costs.

5. PEACE OF MIND
An agile technology advisor and whole solution provider is proactive not reactive. The Managed Services team’s job is to keep your solution running and performing its best. With a monthly or retainer fee the provider is eager to get it right the first time with a continuous focus on improvements and infrastructure tuning. Ultimately this saves you time and money, letting you sleep better at night- and who couldn’t use a little more sleep?
