Aspiranet

Empowering Communities

Aspiranet is a not-for-profit, community-based organization in California whose services include adoption and foster care, youth development and education, early prevention for at-risk families, emotional and behavioral health, and support for children and adults with autism and/or developmental disabilities.

The social-service agency’s organizational structure is defined by four core values: respect, integrity, courage, and hope. Founded in 1975 as a group home for young boys in Moss Beach, CA, Aspiranet was recently recognized for its high standards of care when it received the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for accreditation. The agency is hopeful that revamping its website will pave the way to even more impressive results within the community it serves.

Challenge

Aspiranet needed a complete redesign and restructuring of its website. With a growing list of 35 family-focused support programs, Aspiranet had outgrown its site and was looking to Loewy for some help. Since Aspiranet relies on donations to help fund statewide programs, it was vital that the agency’s website reflect how prominent Aspiranet is in the state of California. Another important challenge was to better organize Aspiranet’s wealth of content and make it more accessible for users.

Approach

By interviewing Aspiranet’s program directors and members of the community, Loewy was able to uncover the needs and objectives of each user type. After completing our user research, we performed a content audit and made recommendations on how to restructure Aspiranet’s navigation and information architecture.

The new architecture was presented in the form of a sitemap and wireframes, and then used as our road map for developing Aspiranet’s WordPress content-management system for the desktop and mobile versions. With a fresh new design in place, and the ability to manage Aspiranet’s website and mobile experience, the organization is poised for growth in supporting communities and families across the state of California.

TECHNOLOGY STACK

This web site was built using WordPress as its content-management system. PHP was used as the server-side scripting language with MySQL as its primary database. jQuery and CSS3 were also used to enhance the front-end user interface and overall usability.
